About Us
The bee is one of the oldest and most important creatures of the natural world. It is an inseparable link of the ecological balance.
Visiting our apiary in the village of Polemarchi Chania you will attend a beekeeping inspection.
After wearing the beekeeping mask that we will give you, we will inspect a hive, where in the honeycombs we will see the worker bees, the drones and maybe the Queen Mother, the brood, the pollen, the honey that you will taste directly from the honeycomb.
Then we will welcome you to our house to taste the honey as we eat it in Crete; the dishes are tea from the Cretan mountains, pollen, pasteli and racomelo which we make, as well as nuts, graviera with nuts, all with honey. We will discuss the nutritional value of honey and pollen, the contribution of bees to the ecosystem over the last 110 million years, the contribution of the current economic system to the collapse of bee colonies around the world and much more.
At the end we will visit our laboratory and approach the process of honey extraction. If you wish, you can get honey and pollen on your way out.
The daily guided tour starts at 10.00, is organized upon request and lasts 2 hours. Please wear long sleeves and long pants (if you don't have them we will give them to you) and closed shoes.
Price per person: €25, children from 7 to 14 years €15.
